Landscape Makeover Program PDF Print E-mail

OMWD, San Diego Botanic Garden, San Diego County Water Authority, MiraCosta College and other water districts are teaming up for a Water Smart Landscape Makeover Series study. This educational study will provide participants an opportunity for hands-on learning through modules designed to walk participants through three key competencies necessary for a successful landscape retrofit. The series is designed to provide homeowners a comprehensive overview and the basic skills necessary for the successful conversion of the typical turf-dominant yard into a WaterSmart landscape.

Each Series includes three free workshops and 2 half-hour coaching sessions. Coaching sessions provide participants feedback on their emerging landscape redesign plans.  This workshop series, a $250 value, is FREE for selected participants.
 
Interested parties who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
  1. Single-family residential homeowner (owner occupied)
  2. Working, in-ground irrigation system with a timer (irrigation controller)
  3. Personal drive to learn and apply WaterSmart landscape principles
  4. Commitment and financial ability to convert at least one area of their yard from turf to low-water-use plants
  5. Commitment to attend all three educational sessions and 2 coaching sessions

Workshop 1: May 19, 2012, 9 a.m.-12.p.m., Toss the Turf
                         Basic Turf Removal and Demolition
Workshop 2: June 2, 2012, 9 a.m.-12.p.m., Planting Principles
                         Installation & Establishment of Climate Appropriate Plants
Coaching Session 1: June 9, 2012, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (individual half-hour appointments to review design plans)
Workshop 3: June 16, 2012, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Intelligent irrigation
                         Irrigation System Components & Installation
Coaching Session 2: June 23, 2012, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (individual half-hour appointments to review irrigation plans)
