OMWD Proactively Completes Replacement of Drinking Water Pipeline on Rancho Santa Fe Road

Olivenhain Municipal Water District has completed the construction of a drinking water pipeline on Rancho Santa Fe Road on the border of Encinitas and Carlsbad. The project replaced an existing pipeline that was originally installed in 1961 and was reaching the end of its lifespan.

OMWD continuously assesses the condition of its infrastructure, and replaces it proactively before failure to avoid major leaks and damage to roadways.

“Replacing old infrastructure is critical to avoid emergency leaks that can waste millions of gallons of water and be very expensive and disruptive to surrounding communities,” said OMWD Board Secretary Christy Guerin. “Investments like this to prevent emergency breaks are cost-effective and very beneficial for our ratepayers.”

This project replaced more than 1,500 feet of 12-inch drinking water pipeline between Las Olas Court and Avenida La Posta on Rancho Santa Fe Road. This project was completed on time and within the approved budget.

OMWD coordinated with the City of Carlsbad and the City of Encinitas on a traffic management plan to minimize traffic impacts.
