OMWD’s 4S Ranch Wet Weather Pond Relining Project and Residential Recycled Water Fill Station Receive Honors from American Public Works Association

The American Public Works Association’s San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter has recognized OMWD’s 4S Ranch Wet Weather Storage Pond Relining Project and Recycled Water Fill Station with Honor Awards for public works projects under $2 million. The awards were presented to OMWD on Monday, May 9, at a celebration honoring public works projects completed after September 2014.

APWA’s local chapter annually honors the best public works projects and professionals in San Diego and Imperial Counties, and this is the fourth consecutive year OMWD has been recognized.

“The recognition from APWA for these two projects is a testament to the forward thinking demonstrated by our Board of Directors in the investment of recycled water,” said OMWD Board Director Larry Watt. “It also symbolizes the hard work and dedication that went into both projects by the entire OMWD team.”

The 4S Ranch Wet Weather Storage Pond is designed to store treated recycled water produced at the 4S Ranch Water Reclamation Facility. This relining project will prevent water loss for the next twenty years, protecting the investment in alternate water sources made by OMWD ratepayers.

OMWD constructed the 4S Ranch Residential Recycled Water Fill Station to assist customers during the drought emergency declared by Governor Brown by providing free recycled water for landscape irrigation. Recycled water, as a renewable and locally produced water source, is not subject to water use restrictions. Residents in the project’s area—whose comments and concerns were incorporated into the project’s final plans—now benefit from a convenient way to supplement their outdoor watering needs.
